Patagonia, Chile
A colonial retreat suspended between rainforest and eternity — 38 private lodges, one singular world.
The Legend of Selva Austral
In 1923, the Chilean naturalist Rodrigo Mena built a single wooden cabin on the edge of the Aysén rainforest — a refuge for scientists, writers, and dreamers. One hundred years later, Selva Austral Lodge stands on the same land, honoring its legacy through architecture that breathes with the forest itself.
Every beam is ancient alerce reclaimed from fallen giants. Every suite opens to the sound of rain on coihue leaves. Here, the jungle is not a backdrop — it is the host.
Accommodation
Thirty-eight private lodges — each one hand-crafted from the forest, each one entirely your own.
Elevated among ancient alerce crowns, these suites offer unobstructed forest panoramas, a king four-poster bed, and a private steam deck. The forest breathes at your window.
The crown of our riverside collection. A two-storey colonial manor with wraparound veranda, river-stone fireplace, private plunge pool fed by a mountain stream, and a dedicated naturalist guide on call.
Our highest perch — eight circular treehouses mounted at 18 metres, where Andean peaks emerge from morning clouds and condors drift past at eye level. The closest one can sleep to the sky.
Life at Selva Austral
Our chef's table restaurant celebrates Patagonian terroir — wild mushrooms, smoked Aysén salmon, lamb raised on wind-swept pampas. Each evening menu changes with the forest's gifts.
Rooted in Mapuche healing traditions, Küme Spa uses native botanicals, volcanic stone, and ancient steam rituals. Our healers carry knowledge passed down through seventeen generations.
Five geothermal pools scattered through the forest clearings, each at a different temperature. Swim beneath ancient trees, breathe volcanic mineral air, and let the Andes hold you still.
Our resident naturalists lead private treks to hidden glacier lagoons, ancient alerce groves, and condor lookouts. No two expeditions are the same — the forest decides the path.
A colonial library filled with antique expedition maps, rare pisco vintages, and botanical spirits distilled on-site. Our mixologist creates cocktails inspired by 19th-century Patagonian explorers.
A members-only evening salon for lodge guests. The Explorers' Club features discreet gaming tables, private card rooms, and live piano among antique maps and expedition artifacts. For guests aged 18 and over.
Guest Chronicles
"Selva Austral defies description. We have stayed at lodges across six continents, but nowhere has the forest felt so alive, so present in every moment. The staff seem to communicate with the trees."
"The Küme Spa rituals changed something in me that I cannot fully name. The naturalist guide who took us to the condor lookout — Matías — was a poet disguised as a scientist. We return every year."
"An evening at The Cartographer's Bar, then the Explorers' Club — the most civilised way to end a day of trekking through ancient forest. Selva Austral is the last great Patagonian adventure."
